Course Goals

The goals for this course are:

red ball To help you with your transition from high school to the San Diego State University (SDSU) community
red ball To help make you mindful of your responsibility for your education
red ball To help you plan your academic and career goals
red ball To introduce you to students, faculty, and staff who can help you make the most of SDSU
red ball To introduce you to SDSU student services and resources
red ball To help you get involved in and make a contribution to college life

Course Material

The following are all available in the SDSU Bookstore:

book Focus on College Success,
appointment book a monthly/weekly/daily planner (preferably, the latest SDSU Mortar Board Daily Planner and Calendar of Events), and
book the 2008-2009 SDSU General Catalog (your contract with the University).

Course Website

The Blackboard course site provides access to course-related information. It will be use to communicate with you as a group and individually via e-mail. Blackboard is located at http://blackboard.sdsu.edu/. Login with your username (Red ID) and password.


Course Grading Criteria

This course is graded Credit/No Credit. To receive credit, you must:

check-mark attend class and participate in class activities

NOTE: if you have two or more absences from class you will not receive credit.

check-mark complete the following assignments outside class:
  1. read the assigned chapters in Focus on College Success (see Course Outline, below),

  2. meet with your instructor in his office, and

  3. write a letter to an incoming freshman, due by December 8th, our last day of class; your letter will be on one or more topics of concern to you
